Equipping Customers’ Success

JPS Equipment Rental
Written by Robert Hoshowsky

Under the experienced hand of company President Jason Bullock, the JPS name has grown into a well-known and highly respected brand across the state of Louisiana and beyond its borders. Bullock has overseen the evolution and rapid growth of a number of companies under the JPS umbrella, including JPS Aviation, providing aircraft charters; JPS Executive Transportation, with a fleet of vehicles providing professional driver and chauffeur services; JPS Realty, with years of combined real estate knowledge; JPS Ford, offering new and used vehicles and a service center; JPS Sports Management; and JPS Equipment Rental.

JPS Equipment Rental maintains four convenient locations, in Bossier City, LA, West Monroe, LA, Alexandria, LA, and the city and county seat of El Dorado, Arkansas. Bullock’s years of experience in areas including business planning, budgeting, negotiation, and operations management continue to lead the company into the future.

Like the other successful companies under President Bullock, JPS Equipment Rental is a business based on the time-tested principles of value, service, and integrity, and the firmly-held belief that ‘putting the customer first’ is not just an expression, but a way of life for JPS and all of its employees. Construction-based companies require a range of rental equipment which must be not only of exceptional quality, but also able to perform flawlessly, be well-maintained, and be safe to operate. At JPS, good simply isn’t good enough when it comes to client service, professionalism, and safety, and the company aims to not merely meet, but exceed, industry standards each and every time.

“We pride ourselves on our service, and our business is built on our service and the people that are on my team,” says Bullock. “We believe in equipping our customers’ success, and partnering with our customers. If they are profitable, we are profitable, and everybody’s happy. So we consider it a partnership, and not just a regular customer/vendor relationship.”

The highly trained team at JPS isn’t just in the business of renting equipment to customers, but knowing all the specifics of the products they are renting. By working closely with clients, the company is able to advise them as to the best choice for their construction needs, and work toward building long-term relationships founded on service, selection, integrity, quality, and trust. It is precisely these values that keep clients coming back to JPS Equipment Rental for all their construction equipment rental needs.

Helping construction companies succeed
Working for the maximum benefit of its customers, JPS Equipment Rental is pleased to provide superior-quality equipment to fill virtually all construction needs, great and small. From air compressors and air tools to concrete products, dozers, excavators, generators, pressure washers, trucks, welders, and landscape products, JPS has clients covered. Recognizing that client requirements vary considerably depending on the nature of the construction project, JPS Equipment Rental’s range of products also includes heaters (both kerosene and propane), light towers and electric light stands ranging from six KW to 20 KW, and attachments including six-inch to 36-inch augers, breakers, trenchers, grapples and thumbs, pallet forks, both smooth buckets and tooth buckets, and more.

Construction is about more than building; it often requires breaking down existing structures and materials such as concrete. To meet these needs, JPS Equipment Rental’s demolition equipment includes not only rotary hammer drills, but a range of chipping hammers, electric and pneumatic breakers, and demolition hammers for loaders or excavators. And to dig or haul, the company has over 10 dozers and excavators to choose from. To move heavy materials safely and securely, JPS has an entire spectrum of quality forklifts for every job, from lifts with a capacity of 5,000 pounds and a lift height of 12 to 15 feet, all the way to 6,000, 8,000, 9,000, 10,000, and even 12,000 pound capacity models with a lift height of 55 inches. For higher jobs, JPS rents scissor and boom lifts ranging from 12-foot to 32-foot electric models, dual fuel/diesel versions of 26 to 43 feet designed specifically to handle rough terrain, along with electric articulating booms of 30 to 60 feet, and large dual fuel/diesel articulating and straight lifts from 40 to 135 feet.

Growing to meet demand
Part of the original company from 2003 to 2010, JPS Equipment Rental was re-acquired in June of this year, and is today owned by Bullock and three investors. Taking on projects across all of South Arkansas, Central and North Louisiana, East Texas, and Western Mississippi, the company remains proudly locally-owned and operated, with all four partners residing in Louisiana and owning and operating other businesses within the state. This model has proven advantageous for JPS, which regularly works with clients in commercial construction, highway construction, the industrial sector, wood products, manufacturing, and a variety of chemical plants. “We are the only locally-owned equipment rental company of our size in any of our markets,” states Bullock of the business, which has grown to about 95 staff across all four locations. “That gives us much more flexibility and a lot more leeway in dealing with the customer. We provide the very best equipment and the very best service to all of our customers across the board.”

Active in numerous industries, JPS Equipment Rental is seeing growth in all areas, and an uptick in oil and gas. The company is optimistic that with the new administration there will also be an increase in new infrastructure projects and infrastructure improvements, and more activity with its highway contractor base and other associated companies.

Though about 75 percent of its business coming from satisfied repeat customers, JPS Equipment Rental also makes its presence known on social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to promote the company. The business is also actively involved with each of the communities in which it operates, and has partnerships with Louisiana Tech University and the University of Louisiana at Monroe. “We are always looking to give back to the community, and keep our name out there, stay relevant in the community, and help out where we can by helping out with community projects,” says Bullock.

One of JPS’s recent projects was supplying equipment rentals for the upgrades to the Joe Aillet Stadium (formerly the Louisiana Tech Stadium). Opening in 1968 and renamed in honor of the university’s head football coach and athletic director, improvements include a new press box, guest suite facility, washroom renovations, aesthetic improvements at entry points, new LED lighting, and more, totaling $18.6 million, all funded through private donations. “We were heavily involved with the equipment rental in the recent upgrades of the Joe Aillet Stadium, and JPS has been a big partner with Louisiana Tech through the years,” says Bullock, who has several family members who are graduates of the respected institution.

Continuing to grow, the team at JPS Equipment Rental is investigating expansion into other key markets throughout Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas, and Mississippi. Says Bullock, “We look forward to continuing to improve the service and overall processes at our existing four locations, and growing in other markets that are very hot right now and offer a lot of potential right now and great potential for us in the future.”
